The MediaSnackers Meme #12

meme

Keeping track of the growing MediaSnackers Meme.

(WORLD) We probably weren’t the first to apply the ‘snacking’ metaphor to media, although there seems to be a growing adoption in terms of describing the new youth-media landscape—we thought it would be good to keep an eye on the growing MediaSnacking meme:

Now that Twitter, Facebook, and FriendFeed are giving us “real time” views, I find I’m “Media Snacking” much more. Watching the streams…

One guys take on how Friedfeed is floating his boat.

Social Media Research Snack Facts

A whole set of flickr pics from Beth.

He also explains how to uses Google Reader for media-snacking. He has 500 friends on Google Reader, so every Monday, he has a host of material that he would have never come across—serendipity in action.

A little analysis on how uber-geek Scoble keeps his head fed.

These media snackers are exactly why Marlatt points to putting your recruiting platforms “in the cloud,” not on your desktop, where they can be accessed at any point on the planet with one device (laptop, mobile phone, etc) to reach these consumers who can be found all over the web.

MediaSnackers used within recruitment discussions.

Milton Keynes Youth Service Staff Conference

mkc

Speaking and masterclass.

(WORLD) Hightailing it from Swansea after the Young People, Mobile and Internet Technologies 08, I'm here at the Milton Keynes Youth Service staff conference delivering a keynote plus a masterclass.

DK delivered an inspring presentation to over 100 youth workers, Connexions personal advisers and play workers.  He showed them a wide variety of ways to work with young people using a wide variety of technology.  All staff really enjoyed the day and it had excellent outcomes in the Service now having its own social networking group which is further developing initiatives for and with young people.

Sue Payne, Head of Youth Services

We'll also be back next month delivering our two day youth professionals training to some of the staff here so this is a great opportunity introduce the ideas and benefits of using social media.

Masterclass anyone?

(WAL) This is only my second gig in my fatherland of Wales (even though I've delivered sessions to four continents)—I'm throwing down two masterclass sessions at the Young People, Mobile and Internet Technologies 08 conference here in Swansea.

First of its kind in Wales, the event has nearly 200 peeps attending—should be a good one.

DK's Masterclasses were inspiring and practical, and showcased effectively, in one hour, just what is possible with social media.

APYCO Conference 2008

apyco

Back again

(GBR) Been invited back to Horewood House and the Association for Principal Youth and Community Officers (APYCO) national conference

Last year I was here as the penultimate speaker bringing the whole idea of social media for the first time—this year I'm delivering two masterclasses to this time show rather than tell.

The context DK puts on the use of social media, the energy he displays and the expertise he presents in a 'class' of 'mixed ability' participants is awesome. I could physically witness the lightbulbs switching on around me! Thanks DK.

MS Vodcast Episode#019

Global Kids with Amira and Rik

(GBR) The MediaSnackers Vodcast presents yummy-youth-media-shots of interviews, insights or event coverage.

During my recent stateside trip I got to make 3D and interview the fantastic Amira and Rik from Global Kids (who we’ve been working with on the RezEd podcasts for the past few months)—check out the vodcast exploring the history and operation of the organisation plus a deeper take on RezEd.

Proper Clever Part Three

5poundmobilevoucher

New ideas in practice.

(GBR) The idea of mobile vouchers were developed for our theatre client, Everyman and Playhouse, who wanted to ‘market’ their new youth production specifically to a younger audience in a different and more relevant way.

We filmed and edited down twenty-second viral videos featuring four of the main characters and they are (as we type) being distributed via bluetooth by the digital journalists, theatre staff, the theatres youth forum and youth theatre network.

The hope is for it to propagate virally with the draw of a £5 admission price when shown at the box office (which is hugely important as the mobile vouchers are instantly measurable).

Open Innocell

Virtual presentation.

(FIN) I just completed a short presentation to a group of government officers in Finland via Adobe Connect Pro (ain’t technology great!).

Open Innocell is a Finnish regional development project run by iTive and I had a great time talking to them about social media and technology.

DK’s presentation was really interesting and inspiring. He was explaining the evolution of internet and social media starting from 1993 till 2008 in an easy and simple way so also those who weren’t that familiar with social media space understood what he was talking about.

He was telling good examples of how especially young people are living this era of new internet, giving great insight of how the situation will evolve in the near future and how we all should start embracing the possibilities of social media.
