MediaSnackers Speaking

The MediaSnackers Manifesto

manifesto

Lines in the sand.

(WORLD) A public declaration articulating our brand beliefs and values:

Everything we do must be kick assthe overarching MediaSnackers mantra.

Be fluid—(reflect the market and) bend, change, divert, redefine, fluxuate, react, stretch, evolve, reinvent, be dynamic and stay organic. It's a strength not to be rigid.

Leading is a choice—not a position.

Play constantly—with words, ideas, technology, platforms, structures and others. It's the best way to learn.

Real life has more bandwidth—faces are better than Facebook, getting out there, making people 3D and pressing palms still rules!

Believe in values—they are assets not to be sold. Meaning, we scrutinise every potential client and are selective who we work with (no tobacco companies or fast-food chains please).

Be nice…to people and the planet. We are currently developing plans to go carbon neutral and also prefer to build people up than to knock them down.

Don't be bullied—simply, ignore them. A secondary reaction to other stuff and it's not our issue(s) to own.

Everyone has something to teach—so, stop and listen (even to the bullies).

Follow the digital breadcrumbs—you never know where they will lead and to whom. Click, click, click away…

Think big, act small—it's been said before, imaginations have no limits, our capacity to deliver does though. Break it down, create layers and it becomes doable (with help usually).

Experience doesn't matter—not when you're trying new stuff. That's why it's called new. The success is nearly always in the attempt.

Make it personal—yes, MediaSnackers is a business but we're people first.

Collaborate—Albert Einstein said it best: "Nothing great was ever done alone." We like company.

Technology is a Trojan Horse—the real game is long-term 'voice projection' for young people. Giving adults just enough comfort with the tools to be able to innovate with their young charges is the key; likewise, giving kids the tools and mentors to begin to project their ideas/creativity on an unparalleled level is what we do (thank you Christian Long for flooring us with this).

Conversation over advertising—no direct mail-outs or fliers. We haven't the time or belief in interruption marketing. We ensure we kickass and promote this. More signal, less noise, or, simple stories, well told.

Look sideways to go forward—inspiration and ideas will come from other sectors, glance around constantly and see what's going on elsewhere, then adapt and adopt.

The MediaSnackers Manifesto will be permanently accessible here and is subject to change.

The World Has Changed…#17

earth

…and it's not turning back.

(WORLD) More evidence that the world is changing for MediaSnackers everywhere from these recent articles:

• After a lecture, students can play it again on their laptops;
• NASA attempts to attract a younger crowd through social networking;
• Looking for music videos? Here's what MySpace offers;
• Email is for old people (not our words);
• Stealing is stealing, even if it is virtual;

The MediaSnackers Meme #6

meme

Keeping track of the growing MediaSnackers Meme.

(WORLD) We probably weren't the first to apply the 'snacking' metaphor to media, although there seems to be a growing adoption in terms of describing the new youth-media landscape—we thought it would be good to keep an eye on the growing MediaSnacking meme:

People are becoming accustomed to consuming large amounts of 'bite-size' content rather than the longer-form stuff of traditional media. Online video clips, the iPod Nano, pay-per-view TV shows on iTunes, short games played on handheld devices, the list goes on.
One of our favourite trend agencies talking about snack culture.

Children are fearless. They are using all the new technologies. They are very adept from an early age at accessing content when they want it and where they want it.
Sounds like mediasnacking to us from this article.

The migration to shorter conversation bursts (140 characters or less on Twitter) is evolutionary and is also indicative of our insatiable appetite for both media snacking and also a sense of community. On any given day, I see more response in Twitter or Facebook than I do on PR 2.0 or bub.blicio.us. But that doesn't mean that blogs are slowing down. It just represents that people share and discover things differently.

Birmingham Youth Service Conference

brumyouthservice

Speaking gig.

(GBR) MediaSnackers is heading on up to the midlands to speak for Birmingham Youth Service and their 'Aiming High Within the Bigger Picture' Conference.

DK from Mediasnackers provided an enjoyable and challenging session for youth workers at our service conference. It was the after dinner session, and was just right in provoking discussion and ideas in an enjoyable way. Colleagues were still debating the issues raised long after the conference was over. It has made us think differently about how we communictae with young people, and how we run our service.

Clubs For Young People Conference

cfyp

Speaking x2.

(GBR) Yesterday MediaSnackers was down in Marwell Hotel, Hamsphire (which has its very own zoo) to deliver two speaking sessions for the Clubs For Young People "Taking The Lead" conference.

We discussed the huge changes in the media landscape and contextualised why organisations who work with young people now need to consider social media operations and strategies.

Clubs for Young People held a conference in November designed to help chief execs and lead workers of voluntary youth organisations find their way through the Childrens Services jungle—so Marwell Zoo seemed an appropriate venue!
The conference was designed to inspire and motivate delegates to return to their organisations equipped with new ideas and innovations. DK of Mediasnackers took the delegates through the virtual world of how young people use the internet and other technology to communicate and participate. The sessions were very well recieved—feedback comments included:

• really upbeat interesting presentation which helped with understanding what young people are experiencing
• great presentation, articulated the need and demand for yp organisations to move forward wery well
• excellent—left me wanting more!

DK's energetic presentation style and broad knowledge base made for a really informative and inspiring session, he pitched the material at a very appropriate level for the delegates and gave an insight into how to keep up with the young people they are working with. He made the use of virtual communication feel achievable by the organisations present and I am sure many of them went back filled with ideas of how to move forward in an innovative way—thanks DK.

E-skills Training Part 2

eskills

A video review.

(GBR) At the beginning of the week we were delivering our bespoke training course to the funky crew at eskills—check out our little film review of the day:

Music Featured: Home Again by Attack!Attack!

The MediaSnackers training day was a completely unique and refreshing approach to learning which has inspired the whole team and boosted the creativity of the project, if only all training was like this.

New Media Landscapes Presentation

wiganleigh

Off again.

(GBR) Heading up to Wigan in the north west of the UK to deliver a second speaking gig this week. The conference is for teachers in the local area and is entitled ''The learner, the 21st century curriculum, the technology & you!'—a jointly organised day by Wigan & Leigh College and Wigan Council.

After researching leading presenters in the new media and i-generation arena I booked DK from MediaSnackers to come and speak to an audience of over 100 teaching staff to illustrate the changing way our learners interact and learn. To say that DK blow the audience away would not be an underestimation. He instantly connected with the audience and captivated and engaged them for the period of his presentation. His style was relaxed yet incredibly knowledgeable and professional. After giving DK an initial brief about the day, his presentation delivered a powerful message that had a distinct WOW factor specifically meeting the brief and audiences needs. Mediasnackers have set the bar high for others to follow. I look forward to working with DK and mediasnackers again and hopefully very soon.
