The MediaSnackers Meme #3

[SUMMARY—Keeping track of the growing MediaSnackers Meme.]

(WORLD) We weren’t the first to apply the ‘snacking’ metaphor to media. Although there seems to be a growing adoption in terms of describing the new youth-media landscape—we thought it would be good to keep an eye on the growing MediaSnacking meme:

Start selling ‘snack sized’ pieces of content on sites like iTunes—think 20cents, not $11.99
Branding and trends blog Influx on how to market the second Borat movie.

Are we now grazing media as if we were gathering digital blackberries in an electronic forest?
Antonio Lopez, Media Educator from his blog post exploring the MediaSnackers Meme.

Thinking about this, I begin to wonder if this is truly “snacking”. While I’m constantly searching for small bits of information, I’m also getting something much more substantial: highly personalized content all delivered to my inbox. It’s not just bits, because there’s a wealth of substantial material.
Brad Levinson commenting on the recent Wired feature on his blog.

The MediaSnackers Meme #2

Keeping track of the growing MediaSnackers Meme.

(WORLD) We weren’t the first to apply the ‘snacking’ metaphor to media. Although there seems to be a growing adoption in terms of describing the new youth-media landscape—we thought it would be good to keep an eye on the growing MediaSnacking meme:

Here’s an article discussing how MediaSnacking has biult momentum through user-generated video websites.

Those clever girls and boys from Wired write their Snack Minifesto:

In the morning, we check news and tap out emails on laptops. At work we graze all day on videos and blogs. Back home, the giant HDTV is for 10-course feasting—say, an entire season of 24. In between are the morsels that fill those whenever minutes, as your mobile phone carrier calls them: a 30-second game on your Nintendo DS, a 60-second webisode on your cell, a three-minute podcast on your MP3 player.

Disney Channel Worldwide president Gary Marsh sums it up superbly:

What we’re really trying to do is be all the places that kids are. Kids are media snackers. They will consume media in many, many different places. We want to make sure that when they are hungry, we are available.

The MediaSnackers Meme #1

scoble

Blogging elite joining the MediaSnackers fold.

(WORLD) Christian Long has been a great advocate of MediaSnackers, posting about our developments and continued growth. His recent post highlighting our MediaSnackers Explained vid (which was embedded in the front page of our site) illustrates, what I call, the ‘digital-ripple effect’.

Robert Scoble is an A-list blogger. He used to work for Microsoft and was one of the first blogging behemoths (he currently works for Podtech). MediaSnackers is honoured he likes our stuff and especially our name:

I like that term. It’s what I’m doing today. Snacking on media.

The start of the MediaSnackers Meme…

UPDATE: The ripple are spreading, check out this great Media Snacking poll from Greg Verdino and also the reference Snacks vs Meals post from Mark Cuban’s.

NOTE TO SELF: Pay more attention to those talking about the MediaSnacking meme :-)

Thanks Christian for starting the ripple.

British Youth Council Training

Short film review of our recent two day youth professionals training course.

(UK) This is a short film review of a two day training course for youth professionals in London for BYC (including staff from Changemakers, Youthnet.org and TimeBank).

The MediaSnackers training workshop provided BYC staff members with crucial knowledge of various media being used today; as well as the confidence to better connect with young people of the UK on their terms and through their preferred mediums of communication. We have had nothing but positive comments back from the youth professionals who attended the workshop regarding DK and Mark, as well as the training in general.
