Multiplatform Symposium 2010

A local speaking gig

(WAL) This morning I'm literally down the road from where I live and speaking at the Multiplatform Symposium 2010 event for creative industries in Wales, organised by Cyfle.

My role will be to introduce and explore how social media fits into all this.

Cyfle would like to say a big thanks to DK for being a fantastic speaker at our event. The audience response to the session has been very positive, they certainly learnt a lot of new things and enjoyed the opportunity to network and chat about how social media could be much more than just a hobby. Looking forward to working with MediaSnackers again in future.

The Change Business

What we really sell

(WORLD) We don't deal in social media.

Seriously.

It's not the thing we focus on.

Sure our tagline says "We're the go-to guys for companies and organisations who want to understand & effectively use social media"… pretty snazzy, eh? But here's the big fat dirty truth :

We're in the change business not the social media business.

Social media is the range of tools we use to create benefit and value—to make things cheaper, quicker, better.

Like Bowie said, turn and face the strain guys—because it is a strain. Change is the hardest thing hardest thing to create and to peddle (but it's the only thing that matters).

Flux500 Workshop

flux500

Illustrating social media platforms

(ENG) Today I'm in Nottingham delivering a small workshop to a group of entreprenuerial champions at the Flux500 event which is organised and run by The Working Knowledge Group.

A fantastic session for the enterprise educators plenary Flux500.

DK opened our eyes to smarter ways of working that engage more students, in less time and little cost and in a way that can be measured. If enterprise education is to achieve the positive impact on the economy that we need then DK gave us a great insight into the tools we have to embrace

Day of the Tradiators Presentation

Folk music folks

(WAL) In Swansea this afternoon for a rare weekend gig delivering a presentation at the Trac Cymru event called ‘Day of the Tradiators’—what is a Tradiator? A champion for folk music, a traditional music activist, a performer, a folk club organiser,
a publisher of traditional music, a folk festival organiser…

Got an hour to explore social media as a tool for these folks to utilise in their operations.

The rubik’s cube of technology has suddenly started making sense! I overheard lots of folk clubs, festivals and performers afterwards hatching plans for upping their game, technologically! Watch out, world!

Social Networking VS Social Media

There is a difference

(WORLD) With any new(ish) industry / sector, there comes a transition of semantics and an amalgamation of terms which start to muddy the discussions until a consensus has been reached.

Of late, we've noted an increasing use of the term 'social networking' when in fact they mean 'social media'.

Why is this important?

Check it:

Just as the violin is not the orchestra, social networking is not social media.

If someone talks to you about how social networking can help you raise your brand profile don't forget to ask about social media (and how it can help to make things quicker, cheaper and sexier).
