The Youth Summit

[SUMMARY—10 year strategies and being provocative.]

(UK) MediaSnackers has been invited (through our friends at Channel 4) to participate in The Youth Summit—a National Youth Agency (NYA) two day conference exploring the Government's ten-year strategy for children and young people.

We'll be facilitating a session with the youth delegates and putting together a short presentation for the whole summit audience at the end of the first day.

I have had experience in my previous role as the UK's first corporate youth officer of working with the NYA. A great organisation with youth participation at it's core. I also have experience of planning at a corporate level and putting together strategies for young people—from my experiences then and now with MediaSnackers I will be preaching the paradigm shift from consultation to conversation. New media and technology has caught a lot of instituations and organisations napping and without embedding it into their policies and operations they are missing out on a huge part of youth culture.

I also believe that a 10 year strategy for young people is not credible. The world is moving at such an extreme pace it's simply isn't viable (unless it is one that is fluid in it's design and focus).

If you're going to be at the The Youth Summit come over and say hi—don't forget to check out the Summit's blog.
