The Web Makes Me Feel

The Web Makes Me Feel Update #4

The biggest thing to happen this month is the announcement of where you can sign up to attend the launch event for the whole project—just click the image below (please note the venue change from Kings Place to NESTA):

We’re asking each of the attendee’s to add their emotion to their name badge—so if you’re coming to the launch on the 15th July have a think in advance on how the web makes you feel, in one word.

Here’s my attempts:

  • Positive: Happy, Empowered, Enthused, w00t!
  • Neutral: Connected, Free, Released, Knowledgeable, Worldly, Enlightened
  • Negative: Exposed, Vunerable, Anti-Social, Swamped

Which one will I select for the day?? I’m not so sure yet. Get thinking about what your response will be.

The cards are returning at a slower speed than planned, and worryingly so at times. I still need another 200 or so in my letter box during the next few days to enable a decent nights sleep but I’m optimistic about the good people coming through (even if it is in the dying seconds of the deadline!).

Here’s my favourite response so far:

The Web Makes Me Feel… ‘Naked’, because… ‘I have no virus protection.’

I think I like this one, because I thought ‘uh-oh, whats the answer going to be!?!’, and felt relieved that it was a clean answer *phew—therefore making it memorable. It’s also a pretty smart answer from a 16yr old girl, and highlights a certain vunerability felt online whilst knowing there’s nothing to protect her machine (or parents machine) from scammers and opportunists etc.

On the stats front, the figures are pretty even for gender splits, though we do have an abundance of 15yr olds for some reason. So we’re frantically trying to even up the numbers, and I’m waiting to hear about a shipment of cards coming back from the Glastonbury festival atm.

The categorisation split is looking good too, lots of positives, but a growing number of neutrals and negatives coming through as well, maybe that’s to do with the initial batch of younger people in the early stages and now the older guys are being hit, we’re finding a lot more non-plussed and cynical responses.

Either way, it all makes for some great reading, and is set to produce an incredible exhibition!

OK, I’m done, time to go write some website copy, hassle some people to return their cards and get some artwork printed up. Byee.

Morning Mark, once again sorry for my cynical responses… the naked one was good though – lol. Looking forward to the launch, see you there!

Jess, the cards your friends did were fantastic, they made me chuckle and will make others chuckle – therefore your ‘cynical responses’ could well be the highlight of the event!
